Hotfix 5.00c Out Now For The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered

CD Projekt Red has pushed out another round of fixes for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, with Hotfix 5.00c landing on PC just days after the remaster’s launch. If you’ve run into save file errors, quiet voiceovers, or lighting that looked a little off in Velen, this update is aimed squarely at you.

A Remaster That Launched Strong, But Not Flawless

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered went live on September 29, and by most accounts, it landed well. Critics responded with scores hovering around 9 out of 10, with reviewers calling it the definitive way to experience the game and praising the overhauled visuals and smoother combat system. One reviewer specifically pointed to Path Tracing as a visual highlight worth the demanding hardware requirements it carries.

That said, the same wave of reviews made clear the technical side wasn’t perfect out of the gate. At least one major review openly noted that performance “isn’t optimal” in its current state, while confirming CD Projekt Red had already committed to follow-up patches. In other words, the fixes rolling out this week aren’t a reaction to a disaster — they’re the normal cleanup pass that comes after a genuinely large technical overhaul ships to millions of players across wildly different hardware configurations.

It’s worth remembering just how big a release this actually is. The remaster is a completely free upgrade for anyone who already owns The Witcher 3 on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S, and it bundles in both expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, at no extra cost. It also marked the game’s first appearance on Nintendo Switch 2. That kind of scale — multiple storefronts, multiple platforms, a decade-old game being rebuilt on modern rendering tech — practically guarantees a handful of platform-specific issues will slip through initial testing, no matter how thorough that testing was.

Patch 5.00b Came First

Before 5.00c, CD Projekt Red had already shipped Patch 5.00b for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Xbox Play Anywhere version of the game on PC. That patch tackled a few specific problems: DLSS wasn’t available at all in the Xbox Play Anywhere PC build, several interior spaces were rendering too dark, and the studio made a handful of smaller tweaks aimed at bringing that version closer in line with the standard PC release. Buried in that patch’s notes was a quiet confirmation that a PC-focused hotfix was already in the pipeline specifically to deal with a reported saving issue — which is exactly what showed up next.

What Hotfix 5.00c Actually Fixes

Released the same day as 5.00b, Hotfix 5.00c is available across every major PC storefront — Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, and the Xbox Play Anywhere version on PC. Here’s the full list of what it addresses:

  • Save and load errors tied to special characters. If your Documents folder path contained certain special characters, the game could fail to save or load entirely. That’s now fixed, and it was likely the headline issue driving this hotfix given how directly it can block progress.
  • Quiet voiceover audio. Navigating through tabs in the pause menu could cause voiceover audio to drop significantly quieter relative to other in-game sound, throwing off the balance mid-conversation. That’s been corrected.
  • Visual tuning in Velen. Several adjustments landed specifically for this region, touching Bloom, vegetation lighting, overall saturation, and Path Tracing lighting — a sign the studio is still fine-tuning how the remaster’s new rendering tech behaves across different parts of the map rather than treating lighting as a one-size-fits-all setting.
  • A reverted HairWorks change. An earlier adjustment to HairWorks had apparently caused real performance and visual problems for some players. Rather than patch around it, CD Projekt Red simply rolled that change back.
  • Marketing telemetry settings not saving properly. A smaller, less visible bug, but one that would have quietly reset a player’s chosen preference every time it happened.
  • Missing GOG achievements. Players on GOG specifically were finding that earned achievements weren’t showing up in their unlocked list, despite actually having completed them in-game. That visibility issue is now resolved.
  • The Classic version failing to launch. For anyone who wanted to boot up the original 1.32 version of the game rather than the Remastered build, that option simply wasn’t working. It’s been fixed, meaning players now have a genuine choice between the two versions rather than being pushed into Remastered by default.

Reading Between The Lines Of This Patch

There’s a pattern worth noticing across this list. Most of these fixes fall into two buckets: things that could completely block a player’s progress (the save/load bug, the Classic version not launching) and things that quietly degrade the experience without stopping you outright (quiet audio, dark Velen lighting, missing achievements). That’s a fairly typical priority order for a post-launch hotfix — you clear the hard blockers first, then layer in polish.

The HairWorks rollback is probably the most telling fix in the list, though. Rolling back a change rather than patching it further usually means the original fix caused more harm than good for a meaningful chunk of players, and the fastest, safest move was simply undoing it rather than trying to patch a patch under time pressure. It’s a small admission, but a reasonable one — better to retreat to a known-stable state than risk compounding the problem.

What CD Projekt Red Is Saying

The studio kept its messaging around this hotfix fairly brief, closing out the patch notes with a direct thank-you to players for their patience while the team continues investigating further reported issues. That’s consistent with how CD Projekt Red has framed the whole post-launch period for Remastered so far — acknowledging the rough edges openly rather than staying quiet about them, while funneling technical reports through its official support portal for anything that hasn’t made it into a patch yet.

Given the studio’s history, that pattern is likely to continue for at least the next few weeks. Big remasters almost always get a cluster of follow-up patches in their first month as real-world player data surfaces issues that internal testing didn’t catch, and there’s nothing in 5.00c’s notes suggesting this is the last update coming.

Should You Update Right Away?

If you’ve hit any of the specific issues listed here — particularly the save/load bug, since that one can genuinely block you from progressing — updating immediately is the obvious move. For everyone else, there’s no real downside to grabbing the hotfix regardless. None of the changes introduce new restrictions or remove content; it’s a pure bug-fixing and visual-tuning pass; and players who want to stick with the pre-Remastered experience now have a working path back to the Classic 1.32 build if they’d rather sidestep the ongoing round of remaster patches entirely.

For now, Hotfix 5.00c is live on PC across every storefront carrying the game. Console players already got their fix bundled into Patch 5.00b a day earlier, so if you’re on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, you should already be running the more stable version. Expect more patches to follow as CD Projekt Red continues working through player reports in the weeks ahead.
